AMN and Navy seize another vessel suspected of drug trafficking south of Portugal

Since the beginning of 2023, authorities have identified 115 people and seized 43 high-speed vessels with more than 33 tons of drugs

A high-speed vessel suspected of drug trafficking was detected, intercepted and seized on Friday night by the National Maritime Authority (AMN) and the Portuguese Navy, in cooperation with the Judicial Police, in yet another operation in international waters south of Portugal. 

The suspicious vessel – which had four fuel tanks on board – was crewed by four men, three of Spanish nationality and one of Moroccan nationality, aged between 29 and 47, and was, according to the AMN, identified and pursued by two high-speed vessels, one crewed by elements of the Maritime Police Tactical Actions Group and the other by Marines.

The four suspects have been identified. 

The National Maritime Authority recalls that, through the Maritime Police and the Navy, they have identified, since the beginning of 2023, 115 people and seized 43 high-speed vessels with more than 33 tons of drugs.
