Throughout his 20-year career, João de Brito spent countless hours on the highway, between Faro and Lisbon. At the wheel, the brain wanders: among the most mundane things, the actor is also plagued by personal concerns, professional dreams, worries. And so was born a poetic and humorous theater show that talks about what it is, after all, to be from a certain place. Or from several places.
“My home is A2”.
Basically, the title of the play sums up this new adventure of João de Brito, an actor from Faro, director of the LAMA company, but also “a little bit” from Lisbon.
"It's a reflection of 20 years of artistic life. I spent half my life in Faro, half in Lisbon. So, I thought about doing something about how I “occupy” this place that is the A2, where I have spent countless hours», he explains, in an interview with Sul Informação.
This is, therefore, a spectacle built on the A2, along a car journey between Lisbon and Faro: 277,5 kilometers separate the two cities.
During the journey, João de Brito shares ideas on phone calls, uses lyrics that are played on the radio, eats breaded sandwiches and drinks Sumol, steals daydreams from some podcasts, but also enjoys contemplating the road.
“During these trips, I think a lot about the things I’ve done, the things I’d like to do, and the things I would change. The show will follow one of these trips, with a strong video component, in which I also think about what my last show would be like,” reveals the actor.
The play is scheduled to premiere at the Teatro Ibérico, in Lisbon, on November 15th, with sessions also on the 16th and 17th. But, as expected, it will also be in Faro, at the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ), on 6 and 7 December.
This is João de Brito's most autobiographical show, combining, he confesses, «fiction with reality».
«The hardest thing was, without a doubt, writing the text’s draft. That was a challenge, despite having had help from Sandro William Junqueira and Sandra Pereira», he says.
The truth is that “many people will identify with this piece, even if they are from other parts of the country because, ultimately, it talks about the question of where we belong.”
"It is a poetic and humorous piece. I am from Faro but I'm also from Lisbon. I'm from Farense, but I'm also from Sporting", he concludes, smiling.
