Tiago Botelho, an economist and until now administrator of the Surgical Department, is the new president of the Board of Directors of the Algarve Local Health Unit (ULS). In fact, (almost) the entire administration has changed in this organization, which brings together the former services of the University Hospital Center (CHUA) and the Algarve Regional Health Administration.
According to a statement that has just been released, “the new team was appointed today, October 31, by order of the Executive Directorate [of the National Health Service], and has already started its duties”.
Thus, Ana Paula Fidalgo, who was, until now, director of the Stroke Unit at the Algarve ULS, is the new clinical director of Hospital Health Care, while Rubina Correia remains as clinical director of Primary Health Care.
Anabela Simão, in turn, becomes the head nurse.
As for the vowels, economist José Carlos Júnior is the vowel proposed by the Ministry of Finance, while the other vowel is Ana Marreiros, assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Algarve.
In the statement released this afternoon, the new Chairman of the Board of Directors assures the Algarve community and the professionals of ULS Algarve of “a commitment to continue focusing on fundamental issues, such as the construction of the new Algarve Central Hospital, the Southern Reference Oncology Centre and the reinforcement of Family Doctor coverage for the population”.
“The path is paved with action, without setbacks,” he told the previous and current teams, in a joint transition meeting held today.
The new administration replaces, almost entirely, the previous one, which was composed of João Ferreira (president), José Almeida (clinical director of the Hospital Area), Mariana Santos (director nurse), Carla Aleluia (executive member for the Financial Area) and Paulo Neves (member). Only Rubina Correia remains.
This dismissal, almost en bloc, of the previous administration has already been criticized by the PS/Algarve, which, in a statement, accused the PSD of “robbing the ULS Algarve to employ militants”.
The socialists consider this to be a “clear example of party arrogance”.
