Angelina Voloshchuk and Sara Lança signed two of the first victories of The Campus Carby VW Ladies Open and advanced to the access round of the main draw of this ITF W50 that The Campus (Quinta do Lago) organizes until October 13th.
Number three in Portugal thanks to her 782nd place in the WTA ranking, Angelina Voloshchuk beat Sara Borkop (a Danish player who has been training in our country for several years) 6-4 and 6-4, marking the first Portuguese victory of this edition.
The 17-year-old, seeded seventh in the qualifying round, will compete for promotion to the main draw with Hephzibah Oluwadare. The Briton is a year younger and is ranked 1296th in the women's world rankings.
Shortly after, Sara Lança (1202nd) doubled Portugal's success on this first day by comfortably beating (6-0 and 6-2 in 64 minutes) Frenchwoman Georgia Kalamaris (898th).
With this triumph, the tennis player from Barreiro set a meeting in the final round of the qualifying with the most highly rated player in this phase: Sofia Shapatava (579th WTA and former 186th), from Georgia.
Teresa Franco Dias was left behind. Just hours away from entering the WTA rankings for the first time, the 25-year-old Portuguese tennis player was unable to surprise Abigail Amos (1345th, but 999th in May 2023) and lost 6-1, 6-3 to the British player in one of the last matches of the day.
Monday's matchday started at 10:00 am and will be dedicated to the eight matches that conclude the qualifying phase, with the draw for the main singles and doubles draws also being part of the programme. Sara Lança will play the second match on Court Carby VW, Angelina Voloshchuk the third.
