PSP reports 141 elderly victims of violence between July and September

The cases of violence were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office

Between July and September, the PSP flagged 326 elderly people at social risk and 141 victims of violence in a family context, the National Directorate indicated today in a statement in the assessment of the operation “Solidarity has no age”.

This year's edition of the operation, aimed at the elderly and aimed at detecting cases of social fragility, physical or psychological vulnerability and suspicions of crimes, took place between 26 July and 27 September.

In total, the PSP flagged 918 elderly people, including 141 victims of violence in a family context, namely physical, psychological (most common) and economic, and 326 at social risk.

Of the situations reported, 487 were referred to social support institutions, such as charities and Social Security.

The cases of violence were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

During the operation, which spanned the country, 539 police officers were mobilized, “who carried out 3.447 individual crime prevention contacts and 244 awareness-raising actions”.

The “Solidarity has no age” operation has been carried out annually since 2012 and mainly involves police officers assigned to the PSP Victim Support and Proximity Teams.

The results of the 2024 edition are released on the International Day of Older Persons, which is celebrated annually on October 1st.
