Portimonense suffered their third consecutive defeat in the II Football League this Saturday, losing 3-0 away to Leixões, after a poor first half in the 7th round match.
In Matosinhos, Simãozinho (10 minutes), Ricardo Valente (34) and Paulinho (38) scored the winning goals for the home team, who “abused” their effectiveness against a more wasteful Portimonense.
The team led by Ricardo Pessoa, which debuted with a victory and has since recorded three defeats in the championship, now occupies 16th and third-to-last place, with five points.
The Algarve team, with three changes in the starting eleven, were surprised early on in a set piece, in the 10th minute, in a direct corner from Simãozinho.
Portimonense responded and created several chances, but goalkeeper Dani Figueira denied shots from Tamble Monteiro, Diaby and Ruan with great saves.
More effective, Leixões took advantage to score two goals in the space of a few minutes, with a header from Ricardo Valente, in the 34th minute, and a well-placed shot from Paulinho, in the 38th.
The Algarve team tried to react in the second half, but the team from Matosinhos controlled the advantage at their leisure and the result remained unchanged.
In the next round, Portimonense will host Benfica B, in a match scheduled for October 14th, at 18 pm.
