A 56-year-old fisherman died this morning, after going into cardiorespiratory arrest while fishing about four nautical miles (about seven kilometers) south of Armação de Pêra beach.
The alert was received at 01:06, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa), informing that a crew member of a fishing vessel was in cardiorespiratory arrest.
A boat from the Ferragudo Lifeguard Station was immediately sent to the scene, with an INEM medical team on board.
Despite several attempts to resuscitate the patient on board, the National Maritime Authority reported that “it was not possible to reverse the situation”, with the INEM team “declaring death at the scene”.
The lifeboat crew transported the victim's body to the Portimão Marina, where it was then taken by the Portimão Volunteer Firefighters to the Portimão Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences.
The Maritime Police Psychology Office has been activated and is providing support to the victim's relatives.
