Algarve cyclist Daniela Campos called up for World Track Championships

Competition will take place between 16 and 20 October in Denmark

Algarve cyclist Daniela Campos is one of five Portuguese riders selected for the Track World Championships, which will take place between 16 and 20 October, at the Ballerup Super Arena, in Ballerup, Denmark.

Coach Gabriel Mendes called up the elite men Diogo Narciso, Ivo Oliveira and Rui Oliveira, who will compete in the individual pursuit, points race, madison, scratch e omnium, and the female elite Daniela Campos and Maria Martins, who will compete in the elimination event, in scratch, at omnium and in the race for points, announced the Portuguese Cycling Federation.

"Our commitment, as in any competition, is that the athletes give their best, representing the national team with dignity. We want to obtain the best possible results. We are competing in a World Championship and we will do our best to compete in all the events", said the coach, quoted by the federation body.

Gabriel Mendes highlighted that the event “is an important opportunity for the development of younger athletes, such as Diogo Narciso, making his debut, and Daniela Campos, who is participating in a World Championship for the second time”.

Portuguese participation will begin on the first day, with the scratch of the women's elite. On the second day, Portugal will compete in the women's elimination, and on the scratch male, while the third will be dedicated to the omnium women's and the men's points race and individual pursuit.

On the fourth day, the Portuguese participate in the competition at omnium men's and women's individual pursuit and finally in fifth place in the women's points race and elimination and in madison male.
