The Algarve native Fabio Loureiro, known as Fábio “Cigano”, who had escaped from Vale de Judeus prison on September 7th, was arrested this Sunday, October 7, in Morocco.
The arrest took place at 22 pm, in Tangier, according to the Judicial Police (PJ).
In a statement, the PJ said that Fábio “Cigano” was arrested “by the Moroccan authorities, with the collaboration of the Spanish authorities, in close coordination with the Judicial Police (PJ) which, since the day of the escape, 7 September, has carried out uninterrupted investigation and information gathering work”.
«The international police operation was launched in less than 24 hours, with the strong support of the Spanish Cuerpo Nacional de Policia (CNP) and the Moroccan Directorate General of National Territorial Surveillance (DGST), based on credible information from the PJ, that Fábio Loureiro was in Morocco».
He was “outlined by an international arrest warrant issued by the competent judicial authority, and listed as a red notice at Interpol,” adds the PJ.
Born in the social housing estate of Poço Partido, in the Union of Parishes of Lagoa and Carvoeiro, Fábio Loureiro was arrested in Odemira in 2012, having been sentenced to 25 years in prison, for the crimes of trafficking of minor quantities, criminal association, extortion, money laundering, injury, qualified theft, resistance and coercion of an employee and driving without a legal license.
The Algarve native will be presented to the Moroccan judicial authorities with a view to his extradition to Portugal for the purpose of serving his sentence.
In addition to Fábio Loureiro, another Portuguese escaped from the Vale de Judeus prison, Fernando Ribeiro Ferreira, 61 years old, sentenced to 25 years for the crimes of drug trafficking, criminal association, theft, robbery and kidnapping; the Argentine Rodolfo José Lohrmann, 59 years old, sentenced to 18 years and 10 months for the crimes of criminal association, theft, robbery, false declarations and money laundering, wanted for other crimes in Argentina and Bulgaria; Mark Cameron Roscaleer, 39 years old, British, sentenced to 9 years for the crimes of kidnapping and robbery; and Shergili Farjiani, 40 years old, Georgian, sentenced to 7 years for the crimes of theft, violence after theft and forgery of documents.
Only Fábio Loureiro has been located so far. All the others remain on the run.
