The Chamber of Faro will organize the 5th Participatory Budget (PB), with the winners to be announced in April 2025.
For this fifth edition of the OP Faro, the total amount allocated will be 250 thousand euros, corresponding to 240 thousand euros for the OP Faro, and 10 thousand for the OP Faro-Schools (under development by school groups with 3rd cycle and secondary students).
Each proposal submitted by citizens must be worth 40 thousand euros or less. All citizens aged 18 or over, registered in Portugal, may submit proposals. Faro or who are proven to reside, work or study in the municipality.
The projects that receive the most votes from citizens until the funds are exhausted will be the winners, and each parish/union of parishes will always have at least one winning project.
In the first phase, taking place in the months of October and November of this year, the Municipality will hold 12 Participatory Meetings in the various parishes/parish unions of the Municipality, with free access to all interested parties, where citizens will be able, in person, to present their proposals for improvements for the municipality (schedule to be made available soon).
In December, it will be the turn of digital participation, through OP portal Faro and each participant will be able to submit a proposal.
After the proposal submission and technical analysis period, voting will take place throughout the month of March 2025 and each participant will be able to vote for two different projects.
In April 2025, the winning projects will be announced, whose execution will last for a maximum period of two years.
Since the first edition, a total budget of 821.324,87 thousand euros has been allocated, and eight of the 25 winning projects in the OP have been completed. Faro. The OP Faro Schools had the support of all school groups and projects were approved in the nine schools in the municipality (3rd cycle and secondary).
