The new season of the Diabetes em Movimento project, a free physical exercise program aimed at people with type 2 diabetes, will start on October 2nd, in Tavira.
The physical exercise and health education sessions take place at the Dr. Eduardo Mansinho Municipal Pavilion on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, “led by exercise professionals and nurses. Those attending these classes are referred by doctors and nurses from the Tavira Health Centre”, according to Tavira Council, which is promoting the event in partnership with the Algarve Local Health Unit and UCC Talabriga.
Diabetes in Motion «is a multi-institutional, multidisciplinary and multi-competence intervention program that represents a coordinated effort by the community to provide a concrete and effective physical activity solution for individuals suffering from this disease».
National coordination is carried out by the General Directorate of Health, through the National Program for the Promotion of Physical Activity and the National Program for Diabetes.
“Diabetes is one of the main public health problems in our country and physical activity is one of the pillars of treatment”, recalls the local authority.
