“Medication safety: we can all contribute!” is the motto of the next information session of the Mental Health 360º Algarve Project, which will take place in the Auditorium of the Municipal Library of Olhão, on September 20th, at 14:30 pm.
The initiative, promoted by the Health in Dialogue Platform and supported by the Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation and the Municipalities of Faro, Loulé and Olhão, is part of the “Health Up to Date” activity.
“Medicine safety is a fundamental pillar of public health. It is necessary to raise awareness among the population about the importance of safe and responsible use of medicines, as well as the role of the individual in promoting this, namely through reporting suspected adverse reactions to medicines,” the project states.
The session will be led by Margarida Espírito Santo, pharmacist, professor at the University of Algarve and president of the Scientific Council of the Pharmacovigilance Unit of Algarve and Baixo Alentejo (UFALBA), and Helena Soares, pharmacist and technical director of Farmácia Soares, located in Moncarapacho.
Ricardo Valente Santos, psychologist and manager of the Saúde Mental 360º Algarve project, explains that “investing in health literacy and empowering people to navigate the health system and make decisions responsibly is increasingly important”.
“All of this contributes to improving the quality of life of citizens and the sustainability of the health system,” he continues.
The “Health in Day” information sessions aim to “inform the Algarve population about important topics related to the area of health and disease prevention and management, through simple and objective communication that demystifies some concepts”.
To this end, they have the support of healthcare professionals and patient associations associated with the Health in Dialogue Platform, who come together in this mission to promote the quality of life and well-being of the elderly community in the Algarve.
