Maintenance and painting, a new playground, refurbishment and expansion, food and transport: these were some of the improvements in which the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel invested before the start of the school year at the José Belchior Viegas School Group, which has 1735 students.
Vitor Guerreiro, Mayor of São Brás de Alportel, highlights the interventions carried out in schools during the school break, the maintenance and painting works at the Secondary School and the EB1 JI No. 3 School, as well as
such as the ongoing construction of a new playground at that school. In addition, it highlights the requalification and expansion projects of the EB 2,3 Poeta Bernardo Passos School and the São Brás de Alportel Kindergarten, known as “Joaninhas”.
Food and transport are also “essential areas” for the Municipality, with the mayor giving as an example the renewal and improvement of the school transport fleet, with the acquisition of two buses, one of which is adapted for people with reduced mobility, thus ensuring that “access to education is within everyone’s reach, as well as experiences outside the classroom”.
These were investments that, according to Marlene Guerreiro, councillor responsible for education, had the support of the Municipality, Group, Association of Parents and Guardians and the entire school community, «in the construction of a more modern school that is better prepared for the challenges of the future».
In the words of the councilor, it is important to “make the school a true learning space”, and a school in
change, must be “inclusive, current and human”.
Marlene Guerreiro also recalled the investment made in the area of human resources over the years, and reinforced again this year, which allows the schools in the municipality to currently have almost twice as many operational assistants, compared to the recommended number, «an investment that reflects an enormous effort by the municipality to provide a quality school».
This year, the School Group has 175 teachers and 152 employees who will welcome 1735 students, from pre-school to secondary school.
