Portimonense, from the II League, confirmed their favoritism and qualified this Saturday for the 3rd round of the Portuguese Football Cup, after beating Vianense, 3th in Series A of the Portuguese Championship, 1-5.
In the 2nd round game, in Viana do Castelo, the Algarve team returned to winning ways in official matches, with goals from Paulo Vítor, in the 51st minute, Elijah Benedict, in the 64th, and Chico Banza, in the 85th, from a penalty, against Diogo Correia's goal (90).
In light of last week's defeat against Torreense in the II League, coach Ricardo Pessoa made eight changes, calling Vinicius Silvestre, Feliciano, Kelechi John, Tony, Cláudio Mendes, Alex Soares, Davis and Ruan into the starting eleven.
Against the fourth-tier team, Brazilian winger Ruan had the two best chances of the match in the first half, shooting at goalkeeper Peixoto in the 20th minute and shooting wide in the 28th.
In the second half, Portimonense started better and took the lead in the 51st minute, with a diagonal pass from Ruan from the right to the center that ended up being passed to Paulo Vítor for the finish by the Algarve team's top scorer this season (fifth goal in six games).
The Portimão team continued to dominate and the 2-0, wasted by Davis in the 59th minute, arrived in the 64th, with an easy deflection by Elijah Benedict, after Ruan's second assist of the match.
Angolan forward Chico Banza scored again, with his fourth goal in three matches, scoring from the penalty spot in the 85th minute, after a foul on himself, before Vianense reduced the deficit in the 90th minute, through Diogo Correia.
The Algarve's participation in the 2nd round of the Portuguese Cup continues this Sunday, with Moncarapachense-Louletano (15pm) in the spotlight. At 00am, Lagoa hosts União 11 and Ferreiras plays away at Varzim.
