A solidarity marathon of ideas will gather in Faro, for three days, citizens and professionals from different areas will seek to find solutions that increase the number of foster families.
In a statement, the organization said that the solidarity code marathon, called Algarve Impact Hackers, takes place on Friday, the 29th at campus from Penha of the University of Algarve, in Faro.
Over the three days, programmers, designers, marketers, educators, psychologists, students and citizens “will join forces to develop prototypes of solutions that can significantly increase the number of foster families”.
The organization said that the event “values everyone’s participation” and appealed to anyone who wants to join, but cannot be present on all three days, to participate in specific parts of the marathon, as it is a flexible initiative.
“The goal is to welcome contributions, ideas and thoughts from individuals from all areas, regardless of their previous experience,” the organization stressed, noting that each perspective is important and can make a difference.
A Impact Hackers is organized by Geek Sessions Faro and Local Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Algarve, Algarve STP and Algarve Evolution, with the results and funds raised going entirely to the Association for the Protection of Girls and Families (AIPAR).
“This is not just another 'hackathon', is an inclusive movement. We believe that the union of different skills combined with technology can and should be used to solve society's most pressing problems”, the organization stressed.
One 'hackaton' – which joins the words 'hacker' (programmer) and marathon (marathon) – is a social event in which participants have the mission of using digital means and tools to solve challenges as a team.
AIPAR, dedicated to the well-being of children and young people, faces “a critical challenge: the difficulty in attracting foster families,” the organization added, arguing that prolonged institutionalization “cannot be the norm.”
People who are unable to attend and wish to help can make a donation to the institution, as the event is open to “all those who want to contribute to a better society through their ideas, thoughts and opinions”.
The event takes place at Ualg Tec Campus on Friday between 18:00 pm and midnight, on Saturday between 00:00 am and midnight and on the 08th between 00:00 am and 00:29 pm.
“It’s not just about code, it’s about multidisciplinary collaboration, building bridges, creating hope and changing lives.”
A Algarve Impact Hackers aims to bring together the Algarve's technology community to create innovative solutions to social problems.
