Siblings Daniela and Noah Campos head the list of six Algarve riders among the 16 selected for the European Road Championships, which take place between 11 and 15 September, in the Belgian region of Limburg-Flanders.

In addition to Olympian Daniela Campos and her brother Noah, both still in the under-23 category, the Algarve will be represented by juniors Guilherme Mestre, Daniela Simão, Raquel Dias and Maria Constança Marques, according to the list of players announced by the Portuguese Cycling Federation.

In the men's under-23 category, Noah Campos (Gi Group Holding-Simoldes-UDO) will compete in the long-distance race on September 13, over a distance of 162 kilometers.

The 129,7 kilometre men's junior long-distance race on the 14th will feature the participation of Guilherme Mestre (Willebrord Wil Vooruit).

The national women's cycling coach, José Luis Algarra, has called up four runners. The most experienced is the under-23 Daniela Campos (Eneicat-CMTeam), who will compete in the 31,2-kilometre individual time trial on the 11th and the 101,4-kilometre long-distance race on the 13th.

The remaining candidates are from the junior category: Daniela Simão (Efapel Cycling Academy) and two runners from Tavira/Etremosul/SC Farense, Maria Constança Marques and Raquel Dias.

They will all line up in the long-distance race, 72,9 kilometres, to be held on the 15th.

Raquel Dias will also compete in the 13,3 kilometer individual time trial on the 11th.

The routes, both for the time trials and the long-distance races, are designed for rollers, although there are some special ingredients to take into account in long-distance races, such as possible wind, cobbled sections and “walls” that will have to be overcome.

The elite men's road competition will feature Olympic track medalists Iúri Leitão (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Rui Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates).
