Archaeologist Frederico Tátá Regala, director of the Culture Unit of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), was appointed by the Board of Directors of this entity as its representative in the new specialized section of architectural, archaeological and intangible heritage of the National Council of Culture.
This specialized section is the result of the reorganization of the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage (DGPC), which culminated in the creation of two new entities, the public company Museus e Monumentos de Portugal and the Cultural Heritage Institute.
Some of the DGPC's attributions and competences were divided and distributed between those two entities, which had a direct impact on the designation, composition and some competences of the specialized section for museums, conservation and restoration and intangible heritage and the specialized section for architectural and archaeological heritage of the National Council of Culture, thus making it necessary to adapt this device to the new legal framework for the management of cultural heritage.
The permanent specialist section for architectural, archaeological and intangible heritage is now chaired by the chairman of the board of directors for Cultural Heritage and includes the presidents of the CCDRs, with the president of the CCDR Algarve having appointed the director of the Culture Unit, Frederico José Tátá dos Anjos Regala, to represent him in the work of the aforementioned section.
With a PhD in Archaeology and a specialization in Speleoarchaeology from the University of Algarve, Frederico Tátá Regala is currently the director of CCDR Algarve, having previously held positions in the Regional Directorates of Culture of Algarve and Alentejo, as a senior technician (archaeologist) and director, as per the attached curriculum vitae.
In the field of Culture, the CCDR Algarve's responsibilities include ensuring support for non-professional cultural initiatives; coordinating with other public or private entities that pursue similar responsibilities or objectives in their respective areas of intervention; encouraging forms of integrated cooperation to be developed and implemented through protocols or program contracts; safeguarding, enhancing and disseminating cultural heritage in protected areas of classified properties, or those in the process of being classified; and participating in and promoting cultural initiatives, namely regional networks of culture and the enhancement of cultural heritage and museums.
