Farense lost this Sunday at FC Porto, by 2-1, and worsened what was already their worst start to the season in the I Liga, with the fifth consecutive defeat in the first five rounds.
Goals from Galeno, 48 minutes, from a penalty, and Samu Omorodion, in the 75th minute, earned Porto the victory, against Tomané's goal, in the 51st minute, in the 26th defeat in 26 games for the Algarve team as visitors for the I Liga in the “dragons'” stronghold.
The match was dominated by the hosts, who hit the target four times and saw Ricardo Velho prevent a handful of goals.
During his visit to Estádio do Dragão, José Mota made five changes to the starting eleven – full debuts for Derick Poloni, Raúl Silva and Mehdi Merghem, as well as Marco Moreno and Miguel Menino – and also changed the tactical model, with the unprecedented use of three central defenders.
The Farense coach tried to give the team more defensive security, but FC Porto's pressing start ended up finding several "holes" in the Algarve system, with practically a "handful" of clear opportunities in the opening 20 minutes.
In addition to two balls hitting the posts, by João Mário (three minutes) and Otávio (12), Ricardo Velho prevented attempts by Nico González (12), Galeno (15) and Pepê (18) in a phase in which only Tomané created relative danger, with a bicycle kick aimed at Diogo Costa (five).
Porto slowed down the pace, but maintained control of the match against a Farense side that was sitting back and had no chance of making transitions, but before the break Ricardo Velho stood out again with shots from Nico González (35) and Iván Jaime (40).
The goals that were missing in the first half arrived quickly after the restart, with Galeno converting a penalty after Marco Moreno pulled him down, in the 48th minute, while Tomané took advantage of an error by Otávio to run into the area and finish accurately (51).
The draw seemed to give Farense more confidence, and within a few minutes they put Diogo Costa to the test with shots from Marco Moreno and Rafael Barbosa, but FC Porto quickly regained control of the match, with several chances before making it 2-1.
Nico González (66) and Galeno (70) hit the posts, before Velho won another duel with Pepê (67) and Galeno (71).
In the second goal for the “dragons”, in the 75th minute, the Farense goalkeeper still prevented Alan Varela's first shot, but was unable to stop Samu Omorodion's shot.
Next Sunday, September 22nd, Farense, which remains in 18th and last place, with no points, will host Arouca, in a game of the 6th round of the I League scheduled for 18:00 pm.
