4 men arrested on suspicion of stealing luxury watches in Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura

Organized group was under investigation for three months

Four men, aged between 24 and 34, were arrested on 13 September for the theft of luxury watches in the areas of Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura, in the municipality of Loulé. 

According to the GNR, the organized group was under investigation for three months, and it was possible to determine that the suspects “frequently entered and left” the national territory, “without maintaining routines or vehicles, opting for discreet accommodation and rented vehicles in different locations”.

The men were caught in a tourist area of ​​luxury goods stores, as they were preparing to commit yet another robbery.

According to the GNR, “it was possible to associate the suspects with several robberies”, and four mobile phones, documentation associated with the criminal activity and 1440 euros in cash were seized from them.

Two of the detainees were presented at the Judicial Court of Faro, having been subjected to the coercive measure of identity and residence terms.

The other two remain detained in the Guarda facilities, to be presented at the Judicial Court of Faro.

At least two of the crimes are believed to have occurred at the end of August, when a 72-year-old Irish tourist was robbed by two armed men, near Quinta Shopping, in Quinta do Lago.

Two days earlier, an English tourist, aged around 40, was also robbed and assaulted near Vilamoura Marina.

According to Correio da Manhã, which cited a police source, in Quinta do Lago the robbers acted with helmets on their heads and managed to steal the victim's luxury Rolex watch, which is valued at more than 50 thousand euros. The pair fled on a motorbike.

The CM added that, two days earlier, an English tourist was hit in the head with the butt of a gun during an attempted robbery of a watch in Vilamoura.

The victim resisted the robbers and managed to prevent them from stealing a Patek Philippe watch, which costs more than 100 thousand euros.
