The model is “consolidated”, the audience is “loyal” and expectations are high. The Sunset Concerts return this Friday, September 6, with names such as Luca Argel, Pedro Branco and Jasmim, and two common denominators: music and sunset.
The stages for the initiative will once again be the same. The concerts will take place on Fridays at 18:30 pm at Largo da Igreja, on Ilha da Culatra, and on Saturdays at 19:00 pm at Galeria Arco, in Faro, and on Sundays, at 17:30 pm, at the Sagres Fortress.
The first guest of this edition is Luca Argel, who will perform on September 6th, on Culatra Island, and on the 8th, at the Auditorium of the Sagres Fortress.
In this case, the usual concert at Galeria Arco will not take place due to the Festival F, from 5 to 7 September, a period during which the courtyard of Galeria Arco, where ArQuente is based, will become one of the festival's stages.
Luca Argel was born in Rio de Janeiro and settled in Portugal, where he has lived for over 10 years. The singer, composer and writer's career began in 2012 with the release of his first book 'esqueci de fixa o grafite'. Soon after, a sudden move to Portugal ended up awakening new musical and poetic paths.
In 2016, he released his debut album 'Tipos que tend towards silence', followed by 'Bandeira', in 2017, and 'Conversa de Fila', in 2019.
In 2021, he returns to the world of music with the acclaimed 'Samba de Guerrilha', a conceptual album in which Luca Argel rescues memories and recreates old sambas with an inventive and radically transformed musicality.
In statements to the Sul Informação, Fúlvia Almeida, president of ArQuente, organizer of the Concertos ao Entardecer, explains that there are no «big news» for this edition, especially because the «model is already consolidated».
«We feel that we already have a loyal audience and it's funny because there are people booking their holidays specifically for this time to catch the Sunset Concerts», he also says.
On the weekend of 13, 14 and 15 September, the sun will set to the sound of Pedro Branco, who is already a repeat performer at Concertos ao Entardecer, where he has participated as a guitarist in several bands and artists who have performed at other editions. However, this time Pedro Branco will be performing solo.
Band member You Can't Win, Charlie Brown, founder of the iconoclastic project Old Mountain and guitarist in projects such as that of singer-songwriter Tiago Bettencourt, it is with this first solo album, entitled “A Narrativa Épica do Quotidiano”, that he presents himself and asserts himself as a composer and “teller of stories that no one wants to hear”.
The Sunset Concert Cycle closes with Jasmim, who will perform on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of September. Jasmim is Martim Braz Teixeira, who began his musical career in 2014 (as a keyboardist) in the psychedelic surf rock quintet Mighty Sands. The single “Primavera” (2016) and the EP “Oitavo Mar” (2017) paved the way for “Culto da Brisa”, her first full-length album, released in 2019. In the first quarter of 2021, Jasmim released her second album, “Acordado ou a Sonhar”. In 2023 she released “Dias em Branco”.
For Fulvia Almeida, the greatest difficulty of this edition ended up being the fact of “choosing from such a varied range of artists, which involves some gymnastics, sometimes even financial”.
“What we want is that, if not better, it goes like last year, which was already very good,” he concludes.
Concerts at Sunset have the support of the Municipality of Faro, from the company Museus e Monumentos de Portugal (integrating the “Fortaleza Cultural” program, with the theme “Heritage of Freedom”) and from the Union of Parishes of Faro.
Furthermore, the initiative has the partnership of the Culatra Island Residents Association and the support of the Tertúlia Algarvia restaurant and the insurance company Falcão Marques Seguros.
