“25 de Abril sempre”, by Andreia Cordeiro, “Paraíso Pedido”, by Bruno Grilo, “Sina”, by Joana Galrão, “Tecer a Paz”, by Lia Rodrigues and Nicole Lissy and “Theatrum mundi”, by PEDRO. These are the five proposals that make up this year’s exhibition that opened on Wednesday, September 4, at Fábrica da Cerveja, in Faro, within the scope of the “Emerging Cycle”.
Andreia Cordeiro, born in Faro, received with “great surprise” the news that she had been one of the artists chosen to be part of the “Emerging Cycle”.
«I already knew about the program and this year, as I was inspired to make these pieces, I thought I would take advantage and I thought it was a way to show my art to my city and also educate people about the need to value freedom», the 26-year-old tells Sul Informação.
“My exhibition was created this year and is inspired by the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April. The pieces are about freedom, about preserving and celebrating freedom. I have an illustration on the wall, a mixed media triptych, some photographs of some students I was teaching and they show the postcards they made alluding to the theme”, he explains, mentioning that teaching is also one of his passions.
On another floor of the Fábrica da Cerveja we find pieces by Joana Galrão, a 25-year-old woman from Faro who was inspired by “three mythological figures who were the personification of destiny”.
“One spun the thread of life, the other measured the thread and the other cut it. I used this in an allegorical way with sewing and the figure of the woman. In other words, sewing has always been a lot of women’s work and what I want to show through these pieces is that she can control her own destiny,” Joana Galrão told our newspaper.
The opening this Wednesday also featured presentations by Bruno Grilo, who showed a perspective of an Algarve that is for sale, and by Lia Rodrigues and Nicole Lissy, who want to “Weave Peace” with their creations.
The “Emerging Cycle” is, as Gil Silva, director of Teatro das Figuras, explains, “a project that was born out of the pandemic as a way of empowering and helping artists to live in that time”, but which continued, being, since 2022, presented at Fábrica da Cerveja, at the same time as the F.
This is, however, a space with “advantages and disadvantages”.
“It has the advantage of being a place that, due to its construction and history, is impossible to escape. On the other hand, during the F Festival there is an activity taking place here, which limits visits, since a lot of people will show up, and, given the queue, not everyone will be able to get in”, explains the person in charge.
However, with that in mind, the exhibition will be on display until September 27th.
The works can be viewed from Wednesday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm, and on Saturdays, between 10:00 am and 14:00 pm.
The exhibition is curated by Sílvia Vieira.
