The first stone of the future Skate Park in Vila Real de Santo António, which will be installed in the Sports Complex of this municipality, was laid last Monday, August 12th, International Youth Day.
This infrastructure, which will cost around 93 thousand euros, is located in an area covered by VRSA's Municipal Master Plan (PDM) intended for outdoor sports equipment and should be completed by the end of the year.
The Skate Park, which will occupy an area of around 540 square meters, «was carefully planned to offer an avant-garde space, both from a technical and visual point of view. This infrastructure will include various equipment, such as a quarter, a pyramid, an inclined wall, a bank, a handrail and a curve», according to the Chamber of VRSA.
«With the exception of the handrail, which will be made of galvanized steel, all equipment will be made of molded concrete, ensuring ideal conditions for street skateboarding, BMX and rollerblading. The uniformity of materials and colors will ensure that the Skate Park integrates perfectly into the surrounding space, in harmony with the rest of the Sports Complex», he adds.
This project “aims to meet the needs of extreme sports practitioners, providing them with an adequate and safe space that allows them to perform a wide variety of maneuvers. The creation of this infrastructure also aims to reduce marginalization behaviors in inappropriate spaces, by concentrating the practice of these modalities in an appropriate location».
The session featured Álvaro Araújo, president of the VRSA Chamber, and Custódio Moreno, regional director of Faro from the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth, who «highlighted the importance of this new infrastructure, long demanded by young people in the municipality, for the promotion of sports, highlighting the role of the Skate Park in creating a safe and modern space for extreme sports» .
On the same day, the winner of the second edition of VRSA's Youth Participatory Budget was announced, the “Renascimento” project, which has as its base theme the legacy of António Aleixo and “intends the aesthetic renovation of the Casa da Juventude building, encouraging, in equally, young artistic production and creation in the municipality».
The winner was announced by Margarida Balseiro Lopes, Minister of Youth and Modernization, who was in Monte Gordo on Monday, as part of the Youth Festival, and by Álvaro Araújo.
Still in Monte Gordo, the minister contacted the young people present, visited the Youth Festival grounds and had dinner with event volunteers.
