Tavira organizes a guided tour of the “Balsa, Roman City” exhibition

Under the guidance of municipal archaeologist Celso Candeias

The Tavira Municipal Museum is promoting, on August 31st, at 10:30 am, a guided tour of the “Balsa, Roman City” exhibition, under the guidance of municipal archaeologist Celso Candeias.

On view at Palácio da Galeria, the exhibition “Balsa, Cidade Romana” provides a journey of 2000 years, to the time when the city that became the capital of a Roman municipality flourished, next to the banks of the Ria Formosa.

Throughout ten rooms, and through an exhibition based on around 100 pieces from various national museums, various aspects linked to the origin and evolution of that city will be revealed, as well as its main economic activities, eating habits and the daily lives of its inhabitants.

Furthermore, participants will be able to learn about the names of some Balsa citizens and their professional positions, their concerns about health, beauty and religion or the funeral rituals practiced by some of them at the time of the death of their loved ones, whose names, engraved in stones, they remained eternal until our days.

The visit is restricted to 15 participants, who must register by August 30th.
