The Environmental Compliance Report of the Execution Project (RECAPE) of the 4* Hotel da Natureza-Econature 5 Águas, to be built on the grounds of an old canning factory next to Quatro Águas, one kilometer from Tavira and in the heart of the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, is under public consultation, from today, the 7th, until the 28th of August.
The RECAPE of this project, which is promoted by Tavipesca – Companhia de Conservas a Tavirense, arises as a result of the issuance of the Environmental Impact Declaration (DIA), dated August 29, 2022, with a favorable but conditioned decision.
RECAPE precisely aims to verify whether the Execution Project complies with the criteria established in the DIA.
According to the promoters, the project envisages the conversion of the area occupied by the former Fábrica de Conservas Tavipesca/Leando 1906, into a “nature” hotel, “through the rehabilitation, requalification and reconstruction of the existing building, preserving the historical and architectural identity of the canning industry in the city of Tavira».
They also state that the work will guarantee «the development of interventions in a sustainable, coherent and articulated manner with an environment of significant relevance for the conservation of nature and biodiversity».
In relation to the original project, which was for an aparthotel (now hotel), the number of beds is expected to be reduced to 90. Parking will also be reduced, while green framing areas and a bird observatory are expected to be created . The stabilization and rehabilitation of the Gilão River bank will also be carried out, while there will be an archaeological monitoring plan.
The project area (17 square meters) is divided into two parcels (Parcel A, to the north, next to the bank of the Gilão river, and Parcela B, to the south), separated by Estrada das Quatro Águas, which connects the city from Tavira to Cais das Quatro Águas (located approximately 400 meters southeast of the project area), from which it is accessed, via ferry, to the island of Tavira.
Parcel A is currently used for informal parking of light vehicles and caravans next to the Gilão river. In this installment, the requalification and landscape enhancement of the area used for disorderly parking and the bank of the Gilão River will be carried out, in order to contribute to its stabilization and mitigation of erosion.
The interventions in Parcel B aim to requalify the building of the former canning factory, creating a 5* Nature Hotel, create stay areas and green areas where there are now concrete slabs or covered areas, as well as regenerate and enhance the landscape from the strip surrounding the old factory.
The documents are available for consultation, for 15 working days, on the website of CCDR Algarve and Portal Participate.
