A 29-year-old man disappeared late this afternoon off the Port of Portimão, on the Arade River, while paddleboarding, a source from the National Maritime Authority (AMN) told Lusa.

The alert for the disappearance was given at 18:25 pm, and searches began and continued until 21:07 pm, when they were suspended.

The missing man, a 29-year-old man of Mozambican nationality, was paddleboarding with a friend on the Arade River, on the beach next to Doca Pesca off the Port of Portimão, in the district of Faro, when they experienced difficulties in the water, explained an AMN source.

The friend alerted the authorities, who began the search using resources from the Shipwrecked Aid Institute (ISN), with a jet ski and a Zebro boat, involving two operatives, from the Maritime Police, with two vehicles and four agents, and a boat from the Portimão Fire Department with six operators, two of them divers.

The searches will resume in the morning, in the river and on land, an AMN source also said.
