Portimonense is not yet in the image of Sérgio Vieira, but it remains on the right path and confident in its evolution, in order to finish this journey in the II League with promotion, said the coach this Sunday, on the eve of its debut in the championship.
«It’s not [in my image]. It's still a little far away, not to say very far away. We already have a good competitive image, we have a qualitative image – in terms of the quality of the moments without the ball, the organization, the moments with the ball, when we try to play –, but there is a lack of continuity over time, there is a lack of constant effectiveness of these moments over time", said the coach, in statements released by the Portimão emblem.
Even so, the pre-season balance was “positive”, creating “a feeling of confidence that the process is evolving, the team is confident, the players are assimilating the ideas and making an effort to evolve the entire dynamic collective", he pointed out.
«I believe that, if we continue in this perspective of evolution, over time we will become increasingly stronger. Now, we are still at a very early stage of what the team can deliver, for different reasons. We know that we still have a lot to do, a lot to develop, a lot to structure, a lot to enhance, in the sense, always, of winning every game we have, but above all so that the path this season is a winning one, a path that culminate with the return to the I Liga", highlighted Sérgio Vieira.
The 41-year-old coach, who succeeded Paulo Sérgio – he asked to leave after relegation to the second tier, despite being invited to renew – will make his official debut for the “Black and Whites” on Monday, at 18pm, in the opening round of the championship, against Felgueiras.
The game is scheduled for the Estádio Futebol Clube de Vizela, currently the loaned home of the northern emblem.
«Felgueiras is an extremely difficult team, it is a team that has been together for some time. His coach is in his third season, which already allows for many automatisms that come out very naturally. It is on an upward trajectory in its history: it was once characterized as a I League club, unfortunately it has gone through a less positive moment, but it is recovering that victorious past", he analyzed.
