In 2024, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve may again add a section to the special moments of the championship

The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve quickly earned its place in the history of the World Superbike, since, for the first time, it was revealed to the Portuguese and the world, in the first days of November 2008.

The physical and technical demands of its unique route around the world have won not only admiration, but also respect from riders who, until today, have rarely encountered challenges as big as the 'Roller Coaster', the name by which the circuit is known. became known worldwide.

In 35 races held on the 4592 meters of the track since then, 13 drivers have won the checkered flag in first place.

In this success story, there were precisely 13 times that Jonathan Rea – the man with the most victories in the Algarve – climbed to the top step of the podium, he who debuted in the SBK peloton precisely at the AIA in 2008.

In 2014, he achieved his first victory and, until 2020, he was undisputed king on the circuit.

In the history of the circuit, in addition to Troy Bayliss' double victory in the first ever weekend, highlights include winning the SBK world title for Ben Spies in 2009, Max Biaggi's victories with Aprilia in 2010, or Jonathan Rea's run of nine consecutive victories between the second race of 2014 and the Superpole Race of 2019.

In 2024, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve can again add a point to the special moments of the championship, as Toprak Razgatlioglu arrives in Portimão with 10 consecutive victories in the championship and, if he is first in the first two races, he will break the record in his hands by Álvaro Bautista, with 11 uninterrupted victories.

On August 11th, it will be known whether the record has been beaten or equaled. Last year, it was precisely Bautista who won all three races held here.
