83-year-old man resuscitated on Manta Rota Beach

Man was transported to hospital

An 83-year-old man had to be resuscitated, on the morning of Wednesday, August 14, after feeling unwell in the water, on Manta Rota beach, in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António.

The alert was given at 9:30 am by the lifeguard on duty, and elements of the “SeaWatch” project, run by the Vila Real de Santo António Fire Department and INEM, were immediately activated on site.

Upon arrival, members of the “SeaWatch” project found that the victim had already been removed from the water and assisted by lifeguards, who carried out resuscitation maneuvers, in collaboration with firefighters. ​

The 83-year-old man was then removed from the beach by the “SeaWatch” Amarok vehicle, and transported to an INEM ambulance, which took him to the hospital.

The local Command of the Maritime Police of Vila Real de Santo António took charge of the incident.​
