Hotel uses the facade and chimney of an old canning factory, deactivated decades ago

The Água Hotels group has just announced that it will build a new hotel next to the Arade Congress Center, near Ferragudo, in the municipality of Lagoa. The start of works is scheduled for 2025 and the inauguration is estimated for 2027.

This four-star development will represent an investment of 20 million euros.

The project includes the rehabilitation of the main building of an old canning factory, which will house the hotel's services, such as reception, bar and restaurant.

With a total construction area of 11.500 square meters, the hotel will have 169 accommodation units, including five suites.

The rooms will be built in a new building to the east of the main building, forming, together with it, a central open-air courtyard with gardens and swimming pool.

Additional facilities will also include a gym, spa and indoor parking.

Algarve businessman Mário Guerreiro, administrator of the Água Hotels Group, said that, similar to what was done at Água Hotels Riverside, located on the banks of the Arade River, in Parchal, the group intends to «recover an area that is currently degraded and abandoned, transforming it into a in a quality and reference location for the municipality of Lagoa, in an area of historical importance in the Algarve».

For his part, Bruno Canhoto, commercial director of the Água Hotels chain, shared his enthusiasm, stating that «we are confident that our new hotel in Ferragudo will be a success and will contribute significantly to the local economy».

«Its strategic location, proximity to the Congress Center and the expansion of our hotel offer are determining factors for this project», which «will be located close to the picturesque village of Ferragudo and the historic area of Portimão, in addition to easy access to local attractions of the beaches", he also highlighted.

«The proximity to the Arade Congress Center, one of the largest in the Algarve, with a 1100-seat auditorium, positions the hotel as an ideal choice for corporate events and business meetings. This project, the group's largest in terms of number of rooms, reinforces the growth strategy in the Algarve», concluded Bruno Canhoto.

The building that will now give way to the hotel, and whose facade and chimney will be preserved in the new hotel project, housed the Martins & Pereira canning factory, which operated until the 80s of the last century.

Currently, the Água Hotels group already has several hotel units, including Água Hotels Riverside (Parchal), Água Hotels Alvor Jardim, Água Hotels Vila Branca (Lagos), Água Hotels Mondim de Basto and Água Hotels Sal Vila Verde (Cape Verde), Two more units are also under construction, one in Bragança and another in Lagos.
