The Sítio das Fontes Municipal Park, in Estômbar, Lagoa, will host the Geology Exploratory Trail activity “Discovering the Geodiversity of Sítio das Fontes”, on September 7th, between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm.
The tour, which will be guided by Francisco Lopes, from GeoWalks&Talks, will cover a distance of 4 kilometers, with the meeting point marked at the Sítio das Fontes parking lot. The degree of difficulty is easy.
«Since time immemorial, Sítio das Fontes has been used by the population of the region due to its various sources of fresh water, where women went to wash clothes, and men built mills. But how were these sources formed? And why are they there? Are the limestone rocks that surround them related to their appearance? What path do they take and how do they do it? These and other questions will be answered on September 7th», summarizes Câmara de Lagoa.
«More than a simple walk, it is proposed to carry out an interpretative route in Sítio das Fontes and the surrounding area. Throughout the activity, hikers will have the opportunity to learn about local Geodiversity, namely the origin of the Estômbar Springs, some geological stories archived in the rocks and, also, some examples of support services provided by Geodiversity to Biodiversity and human activity», concludes.
