Sardine Festival breaks entry record with more than 133 thousand visitors

The Sardine Festival returns in 2025, from the 5th to the 10th of August

This year's edition of the Sardine Festival, which took place from July 30th to August 4th, received 133.404 visitors, breaking the entry record. 

The day with the highest attendance at the venue was yesterday, August 4th, with 28.031 entries registered, with a peak attendance at 22:45 pm, when 14.579 people were counted, many to attend the Delfins concert, on a national tour to celebrate 40 years of successes.

During the six days of the main gastronomic event in the Algarve, and one of the most emblematic in the country, this year in its 28th edition, 2.210 kilos of sardines were consumed, prepared by the five communities in the municipality that were present at the Festival.

In a note, the Municipality emphasizes that these numbers do not take into account the large thousands of people who attended the participating restaurants and the various entertainment spaces spread throughout the riverside area of ​​Portimão.

This Festival is also characterized by being sustainable since 2022 and this year a total of 5 kilograms (kg) of material were “diverted” from the landfill, which will re-enter the circular production system, in the following quantities: organic – 650 4kg; paper/cardboard – 300 kg; plastic/metal – 560 kg; glass – 680 kg.

According to data collected by the Portimão Municipal Water and Waste Company (EMARP), 8 kg of unsorted waste were also sent to the landfill.
