Algarve athlete Fatoumata Diallo, trained at Clube Oriental de Pechão, made her debut this Sunday at the Olympic Games with direct qualification for the semi-finals of the 400 meter hurdles in Paris'2024.
The 24-year-old Portuguese runner was ranked second in the first round of the qualifiers, with a time of 54,75s, very close to the national record she set in June [54,65s].
«The objective was to be in the top three and reach the semi-finals so as not to race again tomorrow. I am very happy with my work. Maybe I was a little nervous and it wasn't worth it, because the work is there», Fatoumata Diallo told journalists.
The barreirista's dream, 27th in the world rankings, «would be to go to the final», she confessed. «I know I don't have time for a medal, but going to the final would be fantastic. I will do my best », she concluded.
The semi-finals are scheduled for Tuesday, August 6th, starting at 19:07 pm.
Fatoumata Diallo's goal was, in addition to reaching at least the semi-finals, to beat his own national record.
Born in Guinea-Conakry, where she had a traumatic childhood, the barreirista moved to the Algarve, in the municipality of Olhão, as a child, and later obtained Portuguese nationality. She began practicing athletics as a member of the Clube Oriental de Pechão, after excelling in school sports.
