Portuguese athlete Fatoumata Diallo was eliminated this Tuesday, with a final 17th place, in the 400 meter hurdles at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, after being ranked sixth in the second round of the semi-finals.
The runner trained at Clube Oriental de Pechão completed the distance in 54,93s, in a series categorically dominated by North American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (52,13s), failing to achieve her goal of beating her own national record (54,65s ).
«I am very happy with this experience, but I wanted more. It didn't. A year ago, at the World Championships, I finished in the qualifiers and now being at the Games and being a semi-finalist is really good. But I'm not satisfied, because I always want more. I already knew that with my time I could qualify for the semi-finals, but I wanted to go to the final», said the 24-year-old athlete.
Fatoumata Diallo, 27th in the world rankings, had achieved direct qualification for the semi-finals in Sunday's qualifiers, then with 54,75s.
Born in Guinea-Conakry, where she had a traumatic childhood, the barreirista moved to the Algarve, in the municipality of Olhão, as a child, and later obtained Portuguese nationality.
She began practicing athletics as a member of the Clube Oriental de Pechão, after excelling in school sport.
