Farense was defeated today (1-2) at home, at the São Luís Stadium, by a numerically inferior Moreirense, a result that punishes a poor performance by the Algarve team in the first round of the I League.
Central Maracás, in the seventh minute, and forward Luís Asué, in the 79th minute, scored the Minho team's goals, while the Spaniard Álex Bermejo, one of the Algarve's reinforcements for the new season, came off the bench to score, in the 66th minute, already after the expulsion of Sidnei Tavares (64).
With five reinforcements in the initial selections – Marco Moreno, Lucas Áfrico, Ângelo Neto, Filipe Soares and Darío Poveda –, plus Rivaldo Morais, returning after loan, José Mota's team gave a pale image of themselves in the first half.
Moreirense were much better, scoring early, with a header from Maracás, after a free kick from Madson, a winger who created a lot of problems on the right and wasted good opportunities in the opening half, namely with a shot that forced Ricardo Velho to make a great save.
The second half followed the same path until Sidnei Tavares received a second yellow card in a childish manner, for entering the field without the referee's authorization, at 64, with Farense equalizing two minutes later, with a deflection by Bermejo after a cross from Rivaldo Morais. .
The match seemed to have “turned” in favor of Farense, but the local fans would end up disappointed, in the 79th minute, when Luís Asué, put into play due to Rivaldo Morais' poor positioning, took advantage of a pass to make the decisive 2-1.
Farense will finish the opening day of the I League with zero points. Next week, he will travel to Rio Ave, in a game scheduled for Saturday, August 17th, at 15:30 pm.
However, the club Faro confirmed that it will host the so-called “big three” of the I League at the Algarve Stadium, a possibility that had been discussed by the president, João Rodrigues, over the last few months.
“Farense would like to express its most sincere thanks to everyone for your support in yet another sporting season that has just begun. As you know, our home ground for games against FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting will be the Estádio Algarve”, revealed the club. Faro in a message distributed to fans during the match with the “canons”.
