Crédito Agrícola explained this Wednesday, August 7th, the reasons that led to the partial closure of the Alcoutim and Martim Longo branches, after the Municipality was against this closure.
«In view of the necessary reorganization plan of the Branches of Caixa de Crédito Agrícola Mútuo do Sotavento Algarvio, and in order to guarantee the maintenance of the activity of both Branches in this region, without compromising the good provision of the service, there was a need to adjust the opening hours of the Alcoutim and Martim Longo branches», since the 5th of August, he explained to the bank.
Crédito Agrícola does not rule out, however, the possibility of «returning to the previous operating model, if more favorable market conditions allow, when combined with the feasibility of attracting human resources in an adequate number to guarantee the activity of these agencies to their fullest extent. , contrary to what is currently happening», he continues.
Currently, the Martinlongo Agency operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and from 13:00 pm to 15:00 pm, and the Alcoutim Agency on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and from 13:00 pm to 15:00 pm.
In response to Caixa's announcement about this partial closure, the Alcoutim municipality highlighted that this decision «generated great concern among residents, who depend on these financial services for their daily activities and to support the local economy».
During the meeting, mayor Paulo Paulino highlighted the «vital importance of these agencies for the community», stressing that, «in rural areas such as Alcoutim and Martim Longo, access to banking services is already limited, making the continuity of the service essential for the local population, especially businesspeople and farmers.
Caixa de Crédito Agrícola do Sotavento Algarvio states that «it has sought to fulfill its mission of supporting the economic and social development of the communities in which it operates, as well as, in recent years, in addition to the investment made in the quality of the service provided in these branches, has supported various entities and initiatives of a social, cultural and sporting nature in this region, with recent emphasis on the contribution made to the acquisition of a motor tank by the Alcoutim Volunteer Firefighters».
