Portugal's return to the women's long-distance road cycling race at the Olympic Games, 28 years later, will have as its protagonist, this Sunday, the Algarve debutant Daniela Campos, 22 years old, born in Boliqueime, in the municipality of Loulé.
«The feeling of making my debut at the Olympic Games is quite special and unique, as it marks the return of Portuguese women's cycling. It's a feeling of responsibility, honor and pride", he highlights, speaking to the Portuguese Olympic Committee's communication channels.
Ana Barros guaranteed the previous Portuguese participation in this variant of the sport at the Olympic Games, in Atlanta '1996.
The Algarve runner considers the Olympic Games route “challenging”, but suitable to her characteristics. The 158-kilometer race starts at 13pm this Sunday.
Daniela Campos wants to “enjoy this unique experience”, have fun and do her best to “dignify the name of the country”. “I am ready and determined to achieve the best possible result,” she adds.
The cyclist was selected for the place allocated to the country by “ranking”, after, last June, having achieved the “double” in the national championships – she was champion in the long-distance and time trial races.
Daniela Campos competes for the Spanish team Eneicat-CMTeam, after several seasons at Bizkaia Durango, having completed her entire training career at the Club BTT Terra de Loulé schools.
