Video surveillance of Praia da Rocha helps catch young people suspected of robbery

One of the young men was arrested and remanded in pre-trial detention.

Three young people suspected of being the perpetrators of a robbery crime in Praia da Rocha were identified by the PSP of Portimão, with the help of the video surveillance system installed in that bathing area.

The crime occurred in the early hours of August 7, when a 24-year-old man was robbed by the three suspects, outside the Praia da Rocha nightlife area.

After attacking him with a bottle on the head, causing cuts to his body, the three robbers stole the victim's cell phone.

The robbed young man was left with injuries to his head, neck, arms and legs and in a “state of disorientation”, without, however, requiring medical assistance.

After «viewing images obtained through the installed public CCTV system», the suspects, two of whom are 2 years old and the other 15 years old, were «located on the very day of the robbery and in the following days», it reads in the note sent by PSP.

One of the suspects was accused and subject to an identity and residence order.

The second suspect was arrested outside of the act, on a warrant issued by the Criminal Police Authority.

The third, as he was a minor, aged 15, was identified, and the facts were sent to the Family and Minors Court, to initiate an educational guardianship process.

The detainee appeared in court today and was remanded in custody.
