The Municipal Firefighters of Olhão received Personal Protective Equipment and “specialized state-of-the-art” helmets for forest fires and urban fires, an investment of 200 thousand euros from the Chamber.
«The new equipment culminates the process of modernizing and standardizing the image of the staff, with a view to providing the men and women of the Fire Department with optimal safety conditions when carrying out their duties, depending on the operational functions and the type of incident» , according to the Olhão Chamber.
The PPE was intended for new sappers, while state-of-the-art helmets were delivered to all members of the corporation.
New defibrillators, more ergonomic pre-hospital backpacks and radios for the SIRESP and ROB networks were also purchased.
According to António Pina, mayor of Olhão, «the delivery of this equipment is the culmination of an investment process that, over the last few years, has made our Fire Department one of the best equipped in the entire Algarve».
«Due to the specificity and dangerous nature of the functions they perform, firefighters always have a prominent position in our investment priorities. In this sense, we have spared no effort to ensure that these men and women have the best conditions", he added.
António Pina also took advantage of the opportunity to say that he hopes to launch the tender for the construction of the future barracks by the end of this term.
