The Algarve's Clara Silva, Leonor Peixinho and Madalena Amaro helped Portugal secure, this Wednesday, its best classification ever in Division A of the European Women's Under-18 Basketball Championship.

In Matosinhos, the Portuguese team qualified for the quarter-finals with their fourth consecutive victory in the tournament, beating Croatia 63-56, also confirming, in addition to a historic place among the top eight, their stay in the main division. of the continental championship.

The Croatians started better, dominated the first period and went into the break with an advantage, but Portugal emerged transformed from the dressing room and, with an excellent third period, achieved a clear difference on the scoreboard, which they managed to control without difficulty in the last ten minutes.

Farense basketball player Clara Silva was once again the main highlight of the Portuguese team, with another double-double: 20 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and three shot tackles.

Leonor Peixinho from Lagos scored seven points, four rebounds, one assist and two steals, while Madalena Amaro from Faro recorded seven points, one rebound and one assist.

In the quarter-finals, Portugal will face Israel this Thursday, at 20:30 pm, at the Matosinhos Sports and Congress Center.
