Algarvia Lara Martins helps Benfica win the Algarve Trophy

Algarve footballer Lara Martins contributed to Benfica's triumph in the first edition of the Women's Algarve Trophy, with two victories in two games played at the Algarve Stadium.

In the decisive match, held this Saturday, August 10th, the national champions beat Sporting 3-1 and sealed the trophy, one day after defeating Sevilla (4-3).

The Andalusian team had beaten the “Leonine” team – with Algarvian Cláudia Neto among the players used – on Thursday (2-1), on the first day of the new Algarve Women's Trophy.

Lara Martins, 17 years old, was a substitute against the Spanish team and a starter in the match against Sporting, in which she suffered the penalty that allowed Carole Costa to open the scoring after 12 minutes.

Nycole Raysla (14 minutes) and Marie Alidou (69) also scored for the Eagles in the derby, with Maísa Correia (71) scoring Sporting's goal.

«For the first time, the Algarve Trophy brought together three of the best teams in the Iberian Peninsula, in a pre-season competition organized to celebrate and support a sport that is experiencing great growth», says the organization of the tournament, run by the company Singular Sport.
