Algarve's Clara Silva was in the spotlight this Saturday, with a double-double in Portugal's 68-49 victory over Italy, in the first round of Division A of the European Under-18 Basketball Championship, in Matosinhos.
With the three Algarvians in the group – Clara Silva, Madalena Amaro and Leonor Peixinho – in the starting five, the Portuguese team triumphed with a second half of excellent defensive level, imposing themselves on a Transalpine team that only scored two points in the last period.
Post Clara Silva, born in Faro, stood out with a double-double (double-digit marks in two statistical items), scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds, all of them defensive, in addition to three assists, in 31m16s of play.
Madalena Amaro from Faro recorded nine points, two assists and a tackle, in 14m16s, and Leonor Peixinho from Lagos recorded two rebounds and two steals, in 13m57s.
Portugal returns to the court this Sunday, in the second round match, against Germany, at 18pm, at the Matosinhos Sports and Congress Center.
