Gabriel Albuquerque achieves historic 5th place on trampolines at the Olympic Games

Algarve gymnast Gabriel Albuquerque achieved today, at the age of 18 and in his Olympic debut, 5th place in the men's trampoline final in Paris'2024, the best result ever in Portuguese gymnastics.

The young athlete from the Association of Parents and Friends of Gymnastics of Loulé recorded a score of 59.740 points in the only exercise performed in the final, won by Ivan Litvinovich, with 63.090.

At Bercy Arena, Gabriel Albuquerque had already secured his Olympic diploma by being one of the eight finalists, after finishing qualification with a score of 59.750 points.

The young gymnast from Loulé was the second Portuguese to compete in the trampoline final at an Olympic Games, after Nuno Merino was sixth in Athens' 2004.

The race was won by the Belarusian Ivan Litvinovich (63.090), competing under a neutral flag and who had already been champion in Tokyo2020, followed by the Chinese Wang Zisai (61.890) and Yan Langyu (60.950), silver and bronze, respectively.
