The future Algarve Innovation and Technology Park (PPPITA) will be created in the parish of Pechão and the mayor of Olhão has already signed the contract to draw up its future Detailed Plan.
The document now signed also includes the transfer to the municipality of an area destined for the construction of 548 public housing units, a project that the Municipality will develop in the coming years.
According to the Municipality of Olhão, the land, privately owned, has a total area of approximately 48,58 hectares and advocates the development of a nucleus for technological companies, collective equipment in the area of health and well-being, equipment linked to education and academic research, as well as residential areas associated with companies, including around 10 hectares for urban green spaces.
The planning contract defines that the owner of these lands will have the obligation to develop, in close coordination with the local authority, a PPPITA proposal, which, within 18 months, must be completed.
By signing this document, the company that owns the land also undertakes to respect the remaining applicable territorial management instruments, namely the Algarve Regional Spatial Planning Plan and the strategic objectives of the Municipality.
Within three months, the company will submit for approval to the Municipality the composition of the team that will prepare the technical and legal proposal for PPPITA, which will work in conjunction with municipal technicians.
«This proposal is of enormous municipal interest, as it constitutes an important contribution from the private sector to the development of one of the fundamental objectives of our urban policy, promoting a more rigorous urban planning and environmental insertion of future land occupations», he highlighted Mayor António Miguel Pina, during the signing of the contract, which also served as a way for the City Council Executive to learn about the details of the space.
