Eight projects from cultural associations across the Algarve receive support of 30 thousand euros

Now CCDR Algarve is the entity that provides support, as it has absorbed skills in the area of ​​Culture

The creation of the “Rota do Poços”, on the Gorjões site (Faro), by the Associação Casa-Museu José Pinto Contreiras, the XVII International Organ Festival of the Algarve, promoted by the Associação Cultural Música XXI, the 13th edition Algarve Design Meeting, by the National Association of Designers, the broadcasts of RUA FM, by the Associação Rádio Universitária of the Algarve, the itinerant cycle Bons Filmes de Semper, from Cinemalua Associação Cultural, Teatro de VizinhEs, from JAT – Colectivo Janela Aberta Teatro, the new edition of the initiative Um Dia na Pré-história, by GAMP – Grupo de Amigos do Museu de Portimão, and also the Open Studios Faro, from Na Mouche Cultural Association.

These are the eight projects, promoted by many other cultural associations, which will be supported this year by a global budget of 30 thousand euros, allocated by the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), within the scope of its new powers in the field of Culture.

The collaboration protocols between CCDR Algarve and the eight associations were signed this Friday, June 28th, in a ceremony at that organization's headquarters building, at which the Sul Informação watched.

José Apolinário, president of CCDR Algarve, explained that, for the most part, these are protocols referring to «projects that, although carried out throughout 2024, have continuity over time». But there are also new projects supported.

In turn, Frederico Tatá Regala, director of the Culture Unit at CCDR Algarve, highlighted that the projects are characterized by «quality, without elitism».

This person considered that this is «a very interesting and very diverse range of projects, translated into just eight protocols, which we hope will be dominant in the Algarve». He also praised “the committed work done with great passion” by the associations and their managers.

The protocols signed last Friday are part of the terms of the Notice of the Support Program for Regional Cultural Initiatives of a Non-Professional Character.

According to CCDR Algarve, «collaboration protocols were signed with cultural associations that presented projects that, due to their specificities, constitute structuring projects, which on the one hand ensure the execution of activities that meet needs in terms of the region's cultural offer, or they constitute a stimulus to artistic creation and production, either by promoting awareness of the arts or by safeguarding material and immaterial heritage, promoting the formation of audiences».

Within the scope of the same notice, and with regard to the areas of support for Creation/Production and Programming/Circulation, the analysis phase of the 97 applications is underway, 47 in the first area and 50 in the second respectively, submitted by 76 cultural agents.

CCDR Algarve is currently a public institute with a special regime, integrated into the indirect administration of the State, with administrative, financial autonomy and its own assets.

One of its areas of activity is to integrate and territorially articulate public policies essential to the implementation of regional development policies in the areas of environment, cities, economy, culture, education, health, spatial planning, nature conservation, and agriculture and fisheries.

In the field of Culture, CCDR ALGARVE's duties are to ensure support for cultural initiatives of a non-professional nature, as well as to coordinate with other public or private entities that pursue similar tasks or objectives in their respective area of ​​intervention, encourage forms of integrated cooperation to be developed and implemented through protocols or program contracts.

Other duties include safeguarding, enhancing and disseminating cultural heritage in the protection zones of classified properties, or those in the process of being classified, and also the participation and promotion of cultural initiatives, namely regional cultural networks and the enhancement of cultural heritage and museums .

 

 


Supported entities and projects:
José Pinto Contreiras House-Museum Association – Rota dos PoçosThe project aims to develop an artistic and cultural intervention in the territory, creating the “Rota do Poços”, on the Gorjões site (Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Faro).

This artistic and cultural installation project aims at the future creation of an Interpretive Center for the Traditional Gorjões Drinking Water Supply System, to be installed in the old Public Lavador, built by the residents' committee in the period after April 25, 1974.

This Center will have the function of identifying the historical practice of the presence and use of water in the surrounding communities and its symbolic, cultural and economic value.

 

Associação Cultural Música XXI – XVII Algarve International Organ Festival

The Associação Cultural Música XXI has been organizing the “Algarve Organ Festival” for 16 years, filling the agenda for the month of November with countless concerts based on musical quality, the diversity of organists and concert programs as well as unlikely meetings in chamber music.

It is worth highlighting the important role that the event has played in the maintenance and recovery of the historic organs existing in the Algarve region, ensuring a more regular musical activity that prevents the degradation of these instruments.

Also counting on the important support of the Municipalities and the Diocese of the Algarve, the 2024 program includes 17 presentations, with 10 organists, two educational concerts, a presentation by students from the Organ School, a visit to the interior of the organs and a photography competition .

Seeking to reinforce the community's close relationship with the event, masterclasses will take place with the invited musicians.

 

National Association of Designers – 13th edition Algarve Design Meeting

The “Algarve Design Meeting”, which had its 2024th edition in 13, is an event with unique characteristics in the region to work on, not only the various areas around design and fine arts, with emphasis on video and digital art , associated with an intense cultural program, within the various artistic languages ​​that touch on the plastic arts, performing arts, digital art and design, which takes place in several emblematic locations in the historic center of Faro.

This is a unique event in the region in terms of promoting design, its connection to the various artistic languages ​​and the academic world.

 

Algarve University Radio Association

The Associação Rádio Universitária do Algarve, through RUA FM, carries out important cultural communication work, disseminating the region's cultural offerings and reaching out to the region's academic community, with emphasis on university students.

This is essential work to promote cultural heritage and the activity of non-professional artistic structures in the region, on the one hand, and on the other, in terms of promoting access to the enjoyment of cultural assets and the existing artistic offer within this community, contributing to the creation of audiences for the arts.

 

Cinemalua Cultural Association – Good Films Ever

The “Bons Filmes de Semper” project consists of creating an itinerant cinema exhibition network, using a mobile projector, taking cinema to territories where it does not exist or to places where there are no means or conditions for its production.

The project has been carried out in several locations in the interior of the Algarve, in particular in the Eastern Algarve (counties of Alcoutim, Castro, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira).

The theme is cinema in the broadest sense, covering different genres with the aim of publicizing a varied range of cinematographic offerings and encouraging the habit of watching cinema.

 

JAT – Colectivo Janela Aberta Theater – Cultural Association – Neighbors Theater

“Teatro de VizinhEs” is a project of mediation, innovation and cultural and social development, which aims to awaken the sensitivity and artistic interest of the Algarve community, and to be a place for reflection, play, creation and artistic expression.
This project began in January 2020 and has maintained constant activity since then, in which around 25 to 45 participants regularly participate.

The group currently has two original creations, “Sai da Frente” and “Ouvi Dizer”, based on the collective vision of the world and its social and territorial concerns, which have already totaled sixteen performances.

 

GAMP – Group of Friends of the Portimão Museum – A Day in Prehistory

Established in 2014, GAMP has been developing, together with the Portimão Museum, the activity “A day in Prehistory”, in the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar.

This activity is one of the most significant in the region, in terms of raising awareness among various audiences about the areas of the Algarve's archaeological and cultural heritage, promoting the enjoyment, dynamization and appreciation of it, in particular the important megalithic monument that is Alcalar.

The event includes activities within the scope of experimental archeology, the connection between art and archeology and dramatic expression, in addition to guided tours.

 

Na Mouche – Cultural Association – open studios Faro

The “Open Studios Faro” asserts itself as a platform for visibility, creation and mediation of contemporary art with a particular focus on visual arts, created in Faro in 2019.

The main objective of this event is to stimulate creativity, exchange and experimentation in the Algarve's contemporary arts and their relationship with the public through cultural and artistic projects, innovative in the territory and confrontation with new regional, national and international creative proposals.

At this event, artists open the doors of their studios, ateliers, or simple work spaces, inviting visitors to discover their spaces and observe or participate in the creative practices that are carried out there.

In addition to studio visits, “Open Studios Faro” will have a parallel program that includes various activities such as workshops for children and adults, exhibitions, conversations with artists, live music, artistic residencies, performances and a closing party.
