The Algarve was the region chosen for the celebration of National Gastronomy Day – Cultural Heritage 2025, which will take place on the 26th of July next year, in Albufeira, with bivalves such as razor clams, cockles and clams highlighted.
For Algarve Tourism, this strategic partnership with AHRESP reinforces the commitment «to valuing Portuguese gastronomy and positioning the Algarve as a gastronomic destination of excellence».
André Gomes, president of Turismo do Algarve, highlights the importance of bivalves in the region's gastronomic identity.
«Bivalves are a treasure that distinguishes us. Their versatility makes them the protagonists of iconic dishes such as razor clam rice, cockle xarém and clam cataplana, providing unforgettable culinary experiences. This gastronomic richness is a fundamental attraction for those looking for authenticity and unique flavors».
In a note, the RTA also recalls that, in recent years, there has been investment in several projects to promote regional gastronomy, such as the Mediterranean Diet, Algarve Craft & Food, Cataplana Algarvia and Algarve Cooking Vacations.
The Mediterranean Diet, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, is one of the gastronomic brands that Algarve Tourism is committed to internationalizing.
This annual event, organized by AHRESP to celebrate National Gastronomy Day, is «an opportunity to value and promote the rich and diverse Portuguese cuisine, being open to both lovers of the culinary art practiced in the country, as well as professionals in the field» .
