Casa-Museu José Pinto Contreiras Association presents results of artistic residency

The project aims to recognize part of Gorjonenses identities, over the last 50 years in democracy, based on open conversations in collective and individual memory laboratories

The José Pinto Contreiras Casa-Museu Association will present, next Sunday, July 28th, the results of the 1st phase of its artistic residency, called “Identity Impression of Citizenship: community and civic memories of the people of Gorjon”.

The project aims to recognize part of the identities of Gorjonenses, over the last 50 years in democracy, based on open conversations in memory laboratories, collective and individual.

Based on this knowledge, the resident artists proceed to artistic creation at a cross-disciplinary level, focusing on the cultural standards of the community, based on three axes of social participation: Ceramics Workshop at the Basic School of Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Artesanal/Artistic Workshop with the Coletivo Mulheres do Alto and Memories of the Gorjões Residents Commission (1974-1976).

The program of this initiative recovers the film from the 2023 Artistic Residency, entitled «Writings in the Landscape», and presents the short video films from the Oficina das Mulheres do Alto.

Next to the old Gorjões Public Laundry, tribute will be paid to the Residents' Committee, which developed relevant civic action in the period between the 25th of April 1974 and its end in 1976, through the placement of a photographic panel, with images from 1975, of the authored by André Pinto.

From September to December, the 2nd phase of the Residency will take place, dedicated to a Draft Proposal for the Musealization Project of the former Public Laundry, as an Interpretation Center for the Rota dos Poços dos Gorjões.
