Terras do Infante supports the “SeaWatch” project to reinforce surveillance on the Vincentian coast

This project guarantees the presence of emergency services on unsupervised beaches

The coastline of the municipalities of Lagos, Vila do Bispo and Aljezur will have increased surveillance this summer, guaranteed by two all-terrain vehicles, a motorcycle and six military personnel, equipped with the appropriate rescue equipment, as a result of an agreement between the Association of Municípios Terras do Infante and the “SeaWatch” project.

This reinforcement is possible thanks to the support that Terras do Infante decided to give to the beach surveillance project under the responsibility of the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (ISN), in 2024, which will be valid for areas under the jurisdiction of the Captaincy of Lagos.

The association of Municipalities will ensure the accommodation of the operatives allocated to the project, throughout the bathing season.

«The “SeaWatch” project’s main objective is to reinforce security on unsupervised beaches, where there are no lifeguards, namely, among others, in the three municipalities of Terras do Infante – Aljezur, Lagos and Vila do Bispo. According to official national sources, in 2023, this project allowed the rescue of 52 holidaymakers, with 193 first aid assistance and 16 successful searches for children lost on the beach», according to Terras do Infante.
