The calendar foresees that the construction of new facilities for the Southern Directorate of the Judiciary Police, in Faro, will be completed in September, «which means that, by September or October, we may or may not be able to make the transfer», said yesterday, June 20, Carlos Farinha, deputy national director of the PJ.

«It is not an absolute commitment, because, sometimes, there are slippages in the projects, and then because, in addition to the main project that is being carried out, there are also other works», continued Carlos Farinha, who spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the seminar on violence carried out yesterday, in the Chamber of Faro.

According to the deputy national director, «the transfer to these new facilities is, for the Judiciary Police, a 2024 objective» and, if possible, it is there that the PJ's 79th anniversary will be celebrated, on October 20th.

After several years operating in Vila-Adentro de Faro, the management of the South of the PJ will move, after the completion of the contract, to the old building of the School of Health of the University of Algarve (UAlg), in front of the Prison Establishment of Faro, at the entrance to the city.

«A diagnosis was made in due time and what was found was that neither the current facilities were sufficient nor were they in the ideal location». On the contrary, the building that the Judiciary currently occupies in the city center has an “excellent location for other types of facilities, namely university housing, in an old, noble area”, Carlos Farinha also highlighted.

The renovation work on the building located at the entrance to the Algarve capital has a planned investment of around 5 million euros and was approved by the previous Government, andn March last year.
