“Noites da Moura Encantada” returns to Cacela Velha

Admission is free

The sounds, smells, colors and traditions of the Mediterranean are back in Cacela Velha, from the 12th to the 14th of July, in the “Noites da Moura Encantada”.

For three days, the corners of the picturesque location promise to transport visitors to the fascinating universe of the Arabian Nights, providing a unique cultural experience in a stunning setting.

With the Ria Formosa as a backdrop, the event revisits the times when the Moorish population had an important role in the south of the territory, whose marks are still present today in habits, customs and landscapes.

The daily program of «Noites da Moura Encantada» will offer a variety of activities and shows that promise to delight audiences of all ages. Daily, the doors to the venue open at 18pm, where visitors can start by exploring the souk, an artisans' market where it will be possible to discover unique and traditional products.

Gastronomy also plays a prominent role, making it possible to sample a variety of Mediterranean dishes.

Throughout the night, there will be demonstrations by artisans from Morocco, as well as a display of musical instruments from the Arab world. In addition, Arabic percussion workshops will be held in Largo da Fortaleza, where participants will be able to learn and engage with the vibrant rhythms of Arabic music.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to be enchanted by oriental dance shows and workshops, where the dancers' skills and grace will be showcased in Largo da Fortaleza. Live music will also be an attraction, with «Músicas de Al-Andalus», in the main church of Cacela, by Emilio Villalba and Sara Marina, who will transport listeners on a sound journey through Arab history and culture.

Throughout the night, several artists and musicians will liven up the streets of Cacela Velha with captivating performances. The groups El Laff and Al Maram will mix oriental music and dance, while Bacisko Susso brings Afro-Arabic melodies with kora to Cisterna de Cacela.

Another highlight is the sunset show with Houssam Arabic Chillout and Giro Espiritual Sufi, in the churchyard.

The «Noites da Moura Encantada» are an event organized by the Vila Real de Santo António City Council, Ibérica – Eventos e Espetáculos and ADRIP – Associação de Defesa do Património de Cacela. Entry is free.
