Maria Helena Serra will give its name to Misericórdia de Albufeira equipment

The Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Albufeira was founded in 1499 and is one of the oldest Misericórdias in the country

The historic provider Maria Helena Serra, who led Misericórdia de Albufeira for 33 years and who passed away this year, will give its name to the day center and home “O Roseiral”. This was one of the new features announced as part of the 525th anniversary of that institution, celebrated on May 31th.

In conversation with Sul Informação, Patrícia Seromenho, provider of Misericórdia de Albufeira, stressed that the outcome of the celebrations was «extremely positive»

«We arrived at the end of the day tired, but happy and with that feeling that we were all rowing in the same direction».

Died in March at the age of 93, Maria Helena Serra, the first woman to hold the position of provider of a Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Portugal, was the subject of a tribute.

«Our idea is to give the name Maria Helena Serra to our social equipment “O Roseiral” which is in urgent need of work», explained provider Patrícia Seromenho.

The work, if all goes well, will take its first steps later this year and the equipment will include both a Residential Structure for the Elderly and a Home Support Service.

Given the various facilities it manages, including daycare centers, homes, day centers or facilities for welcoming and monitoring people with mental health or disabling conditions, it was necessary to divide the team into two groups for the various visits as part of the anniversary.

One of the new features announced was announced by the provider: everyone who has worked for more than a year at Misericórdia de Albufeira will benefit from health insurance.

Another highlight of the morning was the delivery of certificates of recognition to employees chosen by their colleagues as the 'best in a good mood'. Furthermore, all employees were presented with cosmetic products.

Furthermore, the anniversary was marked with the traditional mass and the admission of 38 new brothers, making the Brotherhood now made up of a total of 947.

The commemorative program culminated with a dinner, at the Hotel Nau Salgados Palace, which was attended by employees, users and partners of the institution.

The Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Albufeira was founded in 1499. It is one of the oldest Misericórdias in the country, after Lisbon, together with the Misericórdia de Lagos. Currently, it welcomes around two thousand people, in its various social responses, which are organized in thirteen facilities and cover the entire municipality.
